Welcome to PRAXIS CBT
the online training programme providing core training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Praxis has been developed drawing from a vast range of expertise and experience within the field of CBT. Contributors include -

Study Option 1 Continued Professional Development

Praxis can be used as a stand alone course, for CPD/top up training or as blended learning e.g. Newcastle University is utilising Praxis CBT to prepare and support Newcastle University/NTW Trust IAPT High Intensity trainees. Praxis can be studied in single modules with or without University accreditation. Many people choose to study Praxis to inform their CBT practice as part of their Continued Professional Development (CPD). A certificate of attendance is provided on completion for those choosing this option.

Study Option 2 University Accreditation

Praxis is working with the School of Psychology, Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University on a proposal that would allow participants on modules starting after June 2010 to receive academic credits for their work. In order to receive a University Certificate of Credit Achieved and Academic Transcript, you would need to apply for entry onto a stand-alone module, be accepted, enrol at the University and successfully complete the module and associated assessment. Each of the following modules would be worth 20 credits at Postgraduate level Fundamentals of CBT, CBT for Depression, CBT for Anxiety Disorders I and CBT for Anxiety Disorders II). This proposal is subject to Faculty approval. The University is also considering developing a 60 credit Postgraduate Certificate in CBT, towards which such modules could be counted.

If you are a healthcare professional looking to gain skills in CBT, then this new online training programme developed by Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust is for you. It will give you all you need to get started in the CBT field in a straightforward yet stimulating and highly interactive way, using a step-by-step approach. Higher Education Institutions can purchase an annual licence to provide the programme to learners registered with their university. PRAXIS CBT is IAPT 'high intensity' compatible having used the CBT Competences Framework and NICE Guidelines for Depression and Anxiety to guide its content.

From November 2009 Praxis will be updated further and available to purchase in single modules. The content of the common mental health problems will be increased with more materials and video examples plus there will be three new module to study - CBT for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, CBT for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Behavioural Activation for Depression.. Content includes a Fundamentals module, providing a foundation in core principles of CBT. Two Depression modules with two major evidence-based treatments, Behavioural Activation and Beck’s Cognitive Model of Depression. The Anxiety modules cover Panic Disorder (with and without Agoraphobia), Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. All have their own disorder-specific CBT models in keeping with NICE Guidelines for depression and anxiety. Key cognitive and behavioural strategies in the CBT Competences Framework are demonstrated throughout by experienced CBT therapists using illustrative case studies with high-quality video clips of therapy. The content has been guided by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) revised training standards and guidelines for good practice. Praxis CBT is compatible with the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme and has been incorporated into a number of ‘high intensity’ training courses.
